Here’s what I have learned as a mom to two college kids, don’t skip on these dorm room bedding essentials! A good night’s sleep is crucial to academic success and overall well-being, so make that dorm room bed as cozy as possible. Dorm mattresses are often uncomfortable, so investing in quality bedding can make a big difference. (And bring Lysol wipes to give them a thorough clean before beginning).

Dorm Bedding Essentials:
- Mattress topper: A thick foam topper can transform a hard dorm mattress into a much more comfortable sleeping surface. The college kid’s favs include this one and this one. This is a must have, trust!
- Comforter/Duvet/Quilt: They will need one or all of these. Many dorms have varying temperatures, so it’s a good idea to pick one that’s lightweight quilt with a duvet with a cover at the end of the bed for chilly nights. For the girls, this is the time you can creative, the guys tend to prefer a solid dark version.
- Pillows: A comfortable pillow is a must for restful sleep. Consider a memory foam pillow or one with adjustable firmness. My college kid went to school with one and asked for an extra, I recommend buying two.
- Sheets: Most dorms use extra-long twin beds, so make sure your sheets are the right size. Wash before sending them and pack at least two sets of sheets, so there is a backup when one set is in the laundry.
- Extra Blanket: This can be used for colder nights and visiting friends.
- Bed Shelf/Caddy: These are great, especially for lofted beds. They can hold the essentials while the college kids sleep.
- Euro Pillow: This is a great way to add pattern or a monogrammed item on the bed
- Bed Skirt: Some girls like to have a long length bed skirt under a lofted bed to cover all of the storage below.
