Let me take a shelfie! Bookcase styling is one of my favorite things to do, but I know it’s also one of the most intimidating. I am no design expert, so I reached out to one of the best in the business, Elizabeth Goff Designs for her bookcase styling tips.
Bookcase Styling Tips
- Keep it simple. She explains, “A little goes a long way. You don’t them to be cluttered or overcrowded.” This is when a designer can help, especially if you’re attached to everything on the shelves.
- Stay with the same color scheme. For me, I use greys, blues, always a natural elements and a pop of orange. (Go Tigers!)
- Make it Personal. She explains, “Add the family heirlooms or a special picture that means something to you and your loved ones.” For me, I love the bowl of shark’s teeth that I display. It’s a conversation piece, and holds memories of hunting for years and years.
- Break it up. Add art and use larger focal points to highlight a special piece. Plants or live greenery in a fun vase can also break up the elements.
- Lose some shelves. Often, the shelf space can be tiny. Goff advises utilizing different heights of shelves to highlight a sculptural piece or collection.
- Think of Marie Kondo. If it doesn’t bring you joy, don’t give it a prime time location.
Follow these tips and your bookshelves will look like they were styled by a professional. Special thanks to Elizabeth Goff Designs for her tips! Shop some of my bookcase styling finds below!
